How to Create a Home That’s Healthy and Stress Free

Make a Relaxation Zone 

Chances are you live in a busy family home with noisy kids around, the TV blaring most of the time, and a hundred things to do at once to keep everyone happy and comfortable. As the old saying goes, you can’t pour from an empty cup, so make sure you have a relaxation zone to unwind in when the kids head to bed. Relaxation zones aren’t always fancy; they can be simple. 

Of course, a relaxation zone can be a room in the home – luck for you if you have as much space to enjoy – but it can also be a simple nook or even a chair. The important thing is that your relaxation zone is exactly what you need to unwind following a busy day in the home office or running after other people. A relaxation zone should recharge you and bring back inspiration. 

Reduce the Clutter 

Clutter is a natural stressor, according to experts. When you have a lot of discordant items in a space, it splits your attention and generates anxiety – this is backed by scientific studies. If you want to make your home more comfortable and reduce stress, you need to clear up the clutter, minimize the home, and create rooms that are comfortable, tidy, and as simplistic as possible.    

There are many ways to reduce clutter in the home. Perhaps the simplest way is to downsize your belongings by selling items through online platforms or giving them to secondhand stores. If that is not an option, you could always store the items in a smart way. Organize things into bundles of things you are likely to use more often and store the rest in the attic or basement.   

Create Natural Spaces 

Nature is a well-known antidote to stress, so if you want to create a stress-free home, you can create natural spaces in your rooms using natural light and plant life. If clutter creates stress in the brain, nature creates a sense of calmness and ease, whether you are out walking in the forest or enjoying the house plants in your home. It has the same effect on your mind overall. 

As you might have guessed, natural light and house plants are two of the best ways to bring nature closer to home. If you don’t have any pets, you have a full choice of houseplants available; simply browse the options and choose ones that stand out to you; most of them also purify the air. If you have pets, you need to be more selective about the plants you choose.    

Clean Important Areas 

It’s important that your home is clean and tidy, the risks of breathing difficulties for your family, and improve the quality of air in your home. Some of the key areas that need to be cleaned, whether you live in a house or a flat, include the HVAC system, the carpets, the gutters, the sofas, and the mattresses. Cleaning these areas will eliminate dust mites from the room’s air. 

If you have an HVAC system in the home, it should be cleaned at least once a year, but probably more often than that. Carpets should also be cleaned once a year using a professional carpet cleaning service. Make sure to clean the gutters regularly to prevent water damage and health issues, especially in the fall when there is a high chance of blockages and flooding.  

Choose Calming Colors 

Did you know that most professional businesses change the colors of their offices to improve productivity? That’s because color can have a powerful effect on consciousness, changing the way we feel and act. Since reducing stress in the home is the same as improving well-being, it makes sense to choose wall colors that reduce stress and pacify your mood in certain rooms. 

In the bedroom, it’s a good idea to use calming colors. Various hues of blue are recommended as they calm the mind and reduce stress when sleeping and waking. However, calming colors are not what you need when it comes to the home office; here, you need to be alert and active for your working day. Yellows and reds are a better option.
