There’s no better time to update your home than the winter.
Unless you live in a very warm climate, you won’t be going out much, you’ll likely be having family over, and you probably have some extra time on your hands. Take advantage of it and spend some time updating your home to match the season. Here are five design styles for your wintry refresh:
Declutter Your Home
Winter can be an easy time to let loose and allow clutter to pile up around the house. Fight the urge and keep things nice and tidy.
Find creative ways to store items in your home. Buy some baskets to keep under the coffee table or jars to hold pens, lighters, and other smaller objects.
Keep things clean and organized this winter. It’s the best way to begin a style update, and you’ll have much less to do when spring cleaning comes around.
Place Glowing, Stylish Candles
If you’re going for a cozy dwelling, candles are the perfect touch. Stylish candles can help add a glowing calming effect – as well as a homey and relaxing scent. You can choose sweet scents like sugar cookie or more savory scents like pine or fur.
You don’t have to stock up at Bath and Body Works, candle holders and candlesticks can work just as well – minus the smell.
Incorporate Winter Whites
White is the perfect color for winter. Bring out the whites and replicate the weather within your home. Whites are perfect for creating a clean and bright – yet still warm and inviting space. You can incorporate white pillows, rugs, curtains, or decorations.
A great place to bring out the whites is the bedroom. Layer the bed with white linens, sheets, and pillows. You can even place a white rug beneath the bed to finish the look.
Get Out the Greenery
Greenery looks excellent against a wintry white backdrop. Of course, you can get a Christmas tree to accomplish this, but you could also go with garland, mistletoe, or fake greenery for a natural accent.
Wrap a staircase with it, drape it on a mantel, or use it as a runner on a table. Don’t go overboard though – too much greenery will take you from cozy to energetic quickly.
Hang Some Indoor and Outdoor Lights
Lights are a no brainer in the winter season. And you’ve got plenty of options to work with: whites or colors, classic or icicle. But they don’t have to be reserved for the yard. You can easily incorporate some Christmas lights along the stairs, across the ceiling, or on the patio.
Speaking of your outdoor lights, don’t forget to inspect your roof before venturing onto it or hanging lights. Call a roofing company to inspect or repair your roof and ensure it’s in tip-top shape.
Switch Things Up This Season
Take the change in season as the opportunity you need to update your home. Wow your holiday guests and keep the family cozy with some fresh updates.
