Handy Tips To Declutter Your Garage

Garages are a handy space to have both for car storage and general storage.

The problem is, garages can easily become a waste ground space (where you chuck all your old junk)! To improve your garage space, it’s nice to have a declutter session every once in a while. For a few tips to get going, consider a few of these.

Create Categories

When you are decluttering your garage, the first thing you should do is create categories. Arrange your items into three piles, such as ‘keep,’ ‘not sure,’ and ‘get rid of.’ With clear categories, it’s far easier to organize your items. Focus first on the ‘maybe’ pile. (These include all of the items which you are unsure about).

To help you determine whether to keep these items or not, the following questions can be useful:

  • How often do I use this? (infrequent use may indicate you don’t really need this item).
  • Would I purchase this again if I lost it? (if the answer is no, throw this item out).
  • Would I prefer to keep this item or free up some space?

Dispose Responsibly

Once you’ve decided which items you’re going to get rid of, it’s essential to dispose of them responsibly. You can either recycle your items, give them to a charity organization, or sell them. When selling items, the following second-hand apps may be of use:

  • Wallapop: Using the Wallapop app, you can sell your old items easily. There are lots of categories to choose from, including toys, electronics, clothing or furniture.
  • Letgo: This is a great online marketplace that can help you to sell your old items fast. It’s simple to create listings, take pictures, and receive payments. Categories range from cars and video games to homeware. It’s often easy to find sellers in your local area for fast and convenient sales.

Organize The Remains

Once you’ve got the items that you’d like to keep, it’s time to get your garage organized. Arrange your items according to categories, whether garden tools, spare furniture, car cleaning tools, and so on.

When all of your items are correctly arranged, it’ll be far easier to find what you are looking for. Maintaining your property means paying close attention to every part of your home.

Clean & Maintain

When you’ve got rid of the clutter, continue improving your garage with a little cleaning and maintenance. Keeping every inch of your home clean improves the appearance of your home and your personal wellbeing!

When you’re cleaning your garage, consider using DIY cleaners such as vinegar, lemons or baking soda. These are less expensive and more green than traditional cleaners.

Alternatively, you could use a green cleaning brand. Ensure that you check your garage door for functionality; you’ll want a sturdy door to keep your car and belongings safe. If you have an issue with your door, contact your local garage door repair company.
