The weather is beginning to feel decidedly autumnal.
With most of us spending more time than ever at home thanks to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, lots of people are looking at ways to update their homes. Here, we look at some easy things to do to give your home a new lease of life this fall.
Write a list
When we have lived somewhere for a while, we go into an almost autopilot mode and walk around not really taking much notice of the things in your home that work for you and things that don’t.
One of the easiest ways to take stock and think about what you could do is to walk around your home with a notepad and pencil and look at it as if you were someone seeing it for the very first time. It might jog your memory to change that lightbulb that burned out at the beginning of the summer and hasn’t been replaced or to finally take down that picture that really annoys you.
It also makes you see things that you may normally take for granted or not really noticed – the way the sun reflects off the wall in the evening, for example.
When you have this list, it is much easier to make plans for any changes and make your home work for you. Maybe it prompts you into renting a storage unit and having a big decluttering session or redecorating the hallway.
Consider all of your options
With staying at home more this year, the things that we really want to change are highlighted. Let’s take your kitchen, for your example, the heart of your home. Perhaps sitting in there working on your laptop has reminded you just how much you dislike the way it looks. Of course, you can have a whole new kitchen fitted.
This, however, can be expensive, and after everything that has happened this year, it just may not be feasible. Instead, you could look at replacing cupboard doors, or even repainting your existing ones. Small changes here and there can make some of the biggest differences.
Accessorize
One of the cheapest and easiest ways to update the way your home looks is through the use of accessories. Autumn is a great time to introduce new ones in – it’s all about snuggling up under throws and blankets on the sofa, drawing the curtains and lighting candles. These are all great ways to give your room a new lease of life on a very limited budget.
If your house has hard flooring, add some softness, warmth and texture with rugs. Even changes such as swapping out cool-toned lightbulbs for softer toned ones can make a massive difference and up the levels of hygge in your home.
Updating your home for fall does not have to be complicated or expensive. There are plenty of things that you can do on a tight budget and will take no more than a few minutes to do. Why don’t you try some of them out this fall?
