Let’s Get Cozy: How To Create A Relaxing Home

Our lives are getting busier every year.

Even amidst the COVID-19 pandemic where we have all been asked to stay in our homes as much as possible, we still seem to be rushing around and filling all the hours. This is why our homes must become a place we can unwind in. Life can cause anxiety and stress, and your home should be relaxing and allow you to recharge.

It can be a tricky balancing act, to create a home that is practical, relaxing and makes others feel welcome. But there are changes we can make which can help us find a middle ground so that everything we need from our home is achievable.

Your bedroom is one of the most essential rooms in the house when it comes to relaxation.

Sleep is vital for our mental and physical health so having a space that makes us feel calm and cozy matters. You should start by looking at your mattress.

We ought to change them every eight years, so if you have been sleeping on the same mattress for over a decade – it’s time to get a new one. Memory foam mattresses are popular; however, some people find they get too hot. Opt maybe for a hybrid version which gives you the best of both worlds.

The color scheme you choose for your room is another important factor.

If your room is red or yellow, then you are getting it wrong. Warm tones are the order of the day. If you have the budget, then contact an interior painter who will help you find the best options to help you get a good night’s sleep. Plus, they’ll do all the hard work for you!

Finally, you should always keep your bedroom clear of clutter and mess.

Many of us will take our ironing up to the bedroom, or place piles of washing to put away. This kind of chaos can make you feel slightly anxious. Take 15 minutes extra out of your day and keep everything clean and clear.

Our living rooms are another place for our whole family to relax.

If you have a young family, then it could be worth repurposing your dining room into the main area for children to play and watch TV, keeping them out of the living room until you can sit with them.

Nothing is less relaxing than stepping on lego with a cup of tea in your hand! It might be worth keeping your living room white; this is a simple color to clean and repaint.

You can add color and texture through throws and lighting. You should also invest in a sofa that the whole family can sit and snuggle up on, and keep a large armchair for those nights when you are alone.

You don’t need to spend a fortune to make your home cozier.

You also don’t need to be an incredible designer. Use hotels you have stayed in as a guide to creating a relaxing atmosphere. Hotel interior designers have had years of practice and understand precisely how to give you the most relaxed feeling in the world.

Changes to your interior don’t have to be expensive or time consuming.  Think about the best hotels you’ve stayed in and try to pick out what it was that helped you unwind.  Then apply a few of those tricks to your home.  Kick your feet up, and really stretch out!
