Rural interior design can be classed as a traditional style.
It can be said that it’s one of those styles that has never been told to ‘go with the times’ because of two reasons. Firstly, the people who live in the rural parts of the country, like their culture how it is. Secondly, it’s just pretty good the way it is. But, if you’re someone who isn’t shy to move with the times, no matter what, then you should see the modern-rural style as a pet project.
How could you make this style into the modern-day? With traditional non-clashing color schemes, plenty of natural materials and a coy but very present attitude of ornamentation, the rural style is very unique. But, can it be made ‘modern-rural’?
The rustic comfortable living room
Let’s start small and simple, with your sofa cushions. These can be stuffed with cotton or wool, but they should be covered in linen. This material is very breathable but it’s also very rugged. Linen is also known to be more flexible than most other materials, even synthetic fibers.
If you want to have a modern-rural Interior Design, speak with a specialist company that can help you pick out materials, styles and even make bespoke items. The sofa itself should be the classic rural flat cushion style. It’s not to say that the cushions will be flat in their lines because again, they will be stuffed with wool or cotton instead of foam. But, the supports and the design, allow for more surface area.
Being your light
The modern-rural style can be accomplished in many different ways. We all know that lighting in rural homes is quite composed and humble. It’s just a simple matter of fact that there isn’t enough electricity to spare in some of the most remote homes in the country. That’s why lamps are still used. However, you can have a modern LED lantern that is not fueled by oil candles but LED lights. It’s in the classic woven metal design so it’s rugged and tough.
However, if you break the glass, the light won’t go out, because you’re using very bright, small LED bulbs. Running on batteries, it’s something that you can transport around the garden to give you more light where you need it. Hanging them around the patio gives you affordable light and only lights up areas that are in use.
A natural accent
Rural homes have to have some kind of floral pattern to their interiors. It’s only natural to have plants and floral prints around the home on sofas, chairs, lampshades and dishcloths. This is called ‘accenting’ your home because it’s not entire rooms that are changing, just the decor which is readily seen.
Sofa cushions with local plant and pond life should make an appearance in your bedroom and living room. Consider a throw or area rug with similar patterns for a modern touch.
The modern-rural style is so classy when you get it correct. It takes a little bit of help to do it justice but there’s plenty of knowledge and guidance if you know where to look.
