A small bedroom can be cozy.
However, too little space can also be frustrating as you may have nowhere to store your possessions. Here are just a few ways in which you can maximize space in your small bedroom so that it doesn’t feel so cramped or cluttered.
Buy a bed with storage underneath
A bed with storage underneath could give you more space to contain belongings. While you can store items under a bed with legs, this could look a little messy. Having compartments under the bed will allow you to more easily organize your possessions. This could be a bed base with drawers or a bed that opens up like a chest.
Consider a custom closet
Opting for a custom closet could allow you to create a closet that fits the dimensions of your home, allowing you to make better use of the room’s space. There are many companies that can help you build and fit one of these closets. Does a custom closet increase home value? It could do – even if you’re thinking of moving to a home with a bigger bedroom, a custom closet could be a great temporary fix.
Add shelves above your bed
The empty wall above you bed could be a place to hang shelves. These could be used to contain other items. Ideally you want this shelving to be fairly high and you don’t want it to protrude too much – you should still be able to sit up in bed without hitting your head on it. Too much overhead shelving could also make your bed feel more claustrophobic so take care when utilizing this space.
Make use of mirrors
Mirrors won’t add space to your bedroom, but they could help to create the illusion of extra space. A large mirror could help to make the room look twice the size. If you don’t have an empty wall available for a mirror, you could opt for a mirrored closet or you could hang a mirror on the back of your bedroom door.
Hang items on the back of your door
Aside from a mirror, there are other items that you may be able to hang on the back of your door. Adding a couple hooks for instance could allow you to hang robes and dressing gowns here. Avoid hanging anything too heavy here as the door may not be able to support it.
Keep on top of clutter
Keeping on top of clutter can help you to free up space. Try to annually clear out your wardrobe of clothing you no longer want to wear. It could also be worth getting rid of make-up and hair products that you never use. Try to make sure that everything has it’s own place so that items aren’t getting forgotten – piling your clothes can often result in this happening.
