Summer vacation might just leave you with a lot of free time, if you don’t already have a job to work and make money with.
And if you’re someone who’s career driven, and wants to make something of their job ambitions sooner rather than later, here are some ideas for you to make good use of during summer vacation.
Think about a few things you could do, and be sure to do and try each and every one of them – it’s the only way you’ll find out what you’re good at, and what works best for you! Summer vacation is coming along, and it’s good to have a plan for it!
Do Plenty of Reading
It’s a simple step you can start off with, if you’re not yet ready to make some major moves in the career world. A lot of people just off to college have big dreams, and even bigger plans to try and accomplish them, but this is a good way to start gently and build from there. So, read!
Read books, read magazines, read online articles, even just read comments on social media – the more you know, the better position you’ll be in for your future. Who knows where this love of reading and learning could lead you?
Go on a Course
There are a lot of courses for recent high school graduates like you, make no mistake about that. And if the summer is coming soon for you, don’t worry, you’ve not run out of time either! Opportunities crop up all the time, and you’ve just got to keep an eye out for the right one.
Maybe you could volunteer?.Or you could help a family friend who works in a similar job. Maybe you could attend some conferences or trade shows to pick up some names and do some legwork. If you don’t fancy any of these options, you can register yourself for something along the lines of summer pre-college programs.
These are a great way to get yourself ready for the shift from high school to college academia requirements, and they’re also a great way to meet some like minded people and make some friends that have the same interests as you.
And if you’re about to jaunt off to college and leave your old life behind, that can make the whole process seem a lot less lonely. All in all, you’ll learn something, meet new people, and be able to tailor your expectations accordingly.
Find an Internship
It’s a small point, but it’s significant. You could also try and find yourself an internship to work with; you might not get paid, or you might simply build up some college credit, but it is a good way to gain experience in your field ahead of time. A lot of bigger, fancier companies offer these, especially on a short term basis.
Get your CV in, get your job prospects in, and see if you can make an impression! Spend your summer vacation right!
