Creating A More Spacious Life

One of the things that happens as life goes on is that we seem to accumulate more and more stuff.

Our possessions attract memories and meaning, and aside from the financial value that they hold, it is often the emotional value that stops us from parting with these items. On the face of it, many of the things that we acquire in life could be gotten rid of fairly easily to create a more spacious life.

So often they are not things that we use. We may not even know that we still have them. But going through your possessions to see what you can part with can often become a laborious chore.

If you find that space is becoming an issue in your life and that your home feels cluttered, there are two routes that you can take. Firstly, you can reevaluate your storage needs and secondly, you can look at decluttering your life

Spacious Life: Creating Better Storage Solutions

When it comes to our home furnishings, we often buy small items and collect them over time, fitting in pieces around each other. This is not always the best use of space though. You will find that very often the pieces of furniture that you own do not meet your storage needs. Pushing items into different cupboards and drawers everywhere is not the best way to keep your possessions. Things end up getting hidden away and forgotten.

A better option would be to get some bespoke closets made that will be designed around your own home and a very specific space. Bring in a professional cabinet maker to create the perfect piece of furniture that will not only look great in your home but also have the most useful storage facilities maximizing the amount that you can put inside there. Finding out what to expect during a custom closet consultation is important. Think ahead to what your needs are and where exactly you would like the new furniture to go.

Spacious Life: Declutter Your Life

It is often said that over time, we stop owning our possessions and they start owning us. When the things that you own cause you to make choices that you would not ordinarily have chosen, then you may be at the mercy of these items.

Having a decluttering session is a good way of reclaiming your home. Let go of the items that you do not need, but that are becoming burdensome to you. You will need to be strict with yourself. Start three piles. One to sell or donate, one to throw, and one to keep. In an ideal situation, the three piles should end up being a similar size.

Go through everything that you own and see which stack they should go on. If you are selling or donating an item, make sure it is in good condition. When it comes to disposing of items, be sure you recycle wherever possible.
