What Makes The Perfect Family Home?

Looking to find the perfect family home?

Maybe you’ve already had your children, or perhaps you and your partner want to move into a place with the view of starting a family later on. Either way, here are some things to consider when searching for the perfect family home.

Enough space

First things first, when you’re living together as a family it’s important that you all have enough space. Living in a confined environment can cause stress and arguments, so the space available in the property is definitely something to consider when you’re choosing a home.

Are there enough bedrooms and bathrooms? Will you want a spare room to turn into an office to work from home, or a playroom for the kids? Is the kitchen large enough? Have a think about how you use the space and keep this in mind when you’re viewing properties. If you think you might want to add to your family later on, consider whether the property has space outside where you can extend.

A garden

As well as space indoors, most families will also want space outdoors. A garden is great for kids and pets to run around and play, and for you to host barbeques and garden parties in the summer. If you want even more outdoor space, search for home and land for sale together, perfect if you want to create a vegetable patch, keep chickens or horses or just have more space to enjoy.

Close to schools and amenities

Unless you’re planning on homeschooling, it makes sense to choose a family property that’s close to a good local school. Amenities like parks, play areas and other local businesses that you and your family will want to use are worth looking into as well. If you’re going to be using public transport to get around then you could look into where the nearest bus stop/ station and train station is located.

A low crime rate

None of us want to live in a high crime area, but this will be even more important to you when you’re living with children. There are sites online that allow you to run postcode checks and see what kinds of crimes (and their frequency) are committed close to the property you want to move into. It could be enough to make you think twice about certain homes.

Away from a busy road

Finally, if you have young children and pets then a home situated away from a busy road will probably be your best bet. Just from a safety perspective, the last thing you’d want is for them to get out of the front door and into a potentially life threatening situation. A fenced front garden with a gate can help if you buy a home on a busier street than you’d like.
