It’s still winter and the cold weather is just starting to settle in.
But now is the time to get a head start on preparing your yard for summer. Even if you just start putting a simple plan of action into place, the sooner you start thinking about everything that needs doing, the sooner you’ll be able to start enjoying your yard in the sun. With that in mind, here are 8 ways to prepare your yard for summer.
#1: Clear Out Any Trash
Although this is definitely something you should be keeping on top of, clearing out any trash that has built up in your yard over winter is one of the first things you should do. Often people use their yard as a place to store any unwanted items that they’re planning to get rid of. Make sure these are all cleared out before starting anything else. This will make your job so much easier.
#2: Carry Out Any Necessary Repairs
Was the winter weather was bad? Did your garden has suffered some damage? Taking the time to get these repaired will be extremely beneficial. Not only will it make your garden safe for all the family, but getting these repairs out of the way will mean you’re more likely to want to spend time in your yard. If the repairs are hanging over your head you’ll put off going outside as long as you possibly can.
#3: Look After And Maintain Any Flowers
If your garden has lots of flowers and greenery to maintain, make sure you’re doing this as soon as the warmer weather hits. As it’s quite cold to keep on top of things during the winter weather, the first sign of sun should be a sign for you to start keeping on top of things. You may find that your plants are slow to grow at first. But with a little bit of love and nurturing your garden will be back to its colorful self before you know it.
#4: Take Care Of Your Lawn All Year Round
Looking after your lawn is one of the most important things you need to do. As this will be one of the most used parts of your garden area, keeping it safe and well maintained is vital if you want a stunning garden space.
Lawn care doesn’t have to be difficult either. Simply make sure you’re mowing it whenever it starts to exceed a certain length, use treatments to keep it nice and green and water it should you experience long periods of warm weather.
#5: Clear Your Gutters
Although it is not technically your garden, cleaning the gutters on the outside of your house will definitely improve the overall appearance of your yard. Often winter will mean that all of the leaves that have fallen during autumn will be wet, frozen and an absolute nightmare to clear.
Try clearing them throughout autumn to avoid this problem. But if you do end up clearing them in summer, consider hiring a professional to get rid of everything. They’re more affordable than you make think!
#6: Paint Any Fences You May Have
This is probably something you should do every few years. It helps keep your fences looking brand new year in and year out. All you need to do is buy paint or gloss that is suitable for wood and give your fences a couple of coats. You’ll be surprised how much difference it can make to your garden!
#7: Buy New Garden Furniture
If you have garden furniture that is looking a bit old and weathered, why not consider upgrading to something new? There are even lots of garden stores where you can find cheap sets that are still of really high quality. For inspiration on what to buy, you can visit this handy guide here.
#8: Bring Out All Of Your Kids Toys
Once it’s finally time to start going out in the sun again, it’s also time to bring out all of the kids’ toys. Whether it means uncovering the swing, bringing the slide from out the garage or setting up the pool – it will truly feel like the start of summer when everything is back in its rightful place!
