Little Things, Large Impact

There are literally thousands of blogs urging you to give your home a makeover.

Paint a wall here, install a new bathroom there. This is absolutely great if you have a budget that is as limitless as your imagination. But if you’re saving up or just unwilling to spend thousands of dollars on a home that, while worn, still serves its purpose? It’s time to take a look at some quick easy fixes that have a large impact. These will maintain the character and style of your sanctuary without asking you to blast through the yearly budget.

Change up your wall art

Such a simple and such an effective way of creating a new and inspired look. But changing wall paintings and hangings can make a dramatic difference and needn’t cost the earth. If you’re unwilling to spend out some replacement artworks, then get the children or grandchildren loose on some proper canvas with a paintbrush for some unique creations.

Alternatively opt for the mess-free idea of simply moving your art around. Swap in the long forgotten pieces gathering dust in the spare room with pictures in your living room. Add a mirror or two here and there and you’ve got a whole new look.

Add some coving

If you have dramatic high ceilings then some decorative coving can make all the difference. Cheap to buy and easy to install, coving can add a touch of grandeur to ceilings. It can also be painted and added to walls and corners for unusual touches.

Rug up

Don’t have time to pay a visit to carpet stores? You can change the look of your living space with a rug. Treat yourself to a little bit of luxury underfoot and let your toes sink into something soft and deep. Rugs cover a multitude of frayed and stained carpets and can be used to add some splashes of color to your room. Think contrasting and bright for added drama.

Feng shui your furniture

Or just have a move around to see what you can do to shake up your tired look. It costs nothing and could change the entire look of your house. Plus, it can be put back again if you’re not happy with the results.

You don’t have to have a degree in interior design or even much of budget. What you do need is a little imagination and some time. Time to have a look at the interiors of your favorite Instagrammers and time to trawl through the pages of your go-to home and lifestyle bloggers. Those beautiful living rooms don’t just belong to the rich and famous! They can be yours with a little lateral thinking and a little bit of desire to shake things up.

Do your research, dig out your old artwork and photos and shake up your tired old living space. Just like moving house but without any of the hassle.
