When you move into a new house, you’ll probably be itching to get started on the decor.
If you’ve moved into an old house, this is even more true. You’ll want to get everything all ripped out and start work ASAP! A lot of the time, it’s nice to get your living space up together first so that you have some space to enjoy and relax in to begin with. But the most exciting room to work on is the kitchen. Although, it can feel incredibly overwhelming when you’re not too sure what you want or where to start. Designing a kitchen can be a big job, but it’s not an impossible one. So if you’re starting from scratch, here’s the simplest way to get your design together.
Step #1: Pick A Theme
First of all, you’re going to want to pick out a theme. If you’re feeling like you have no idea what you want, then sticking to a set theme is an important way to help you narrow things down. Whether you want to pick modern minimal or vintage glamour, you can then choose kitchen designs that will work with that. So take a look at some kitchen decorating ideas and get a sense for what you might like to do. By picking out the design and color schemes first, everything else can then fall into place.
Step #2: Choose Your Appliances
When you know what you’re going to go with, you can then make your choices when it comes to the appliances. Because this is important. Obviously, it’s things like the stove that you’ll be using the most, so you need to find kitchen appliance packages that you like first, then work around it. So consider what you need from your appliance and choose a set that will be the best for that.
Step #3: Select Cabinets & Counters
Then it’s onto the kitchen units themselves. To a lot of people, this will seem like the fun part. As it’s the cabinets and counters that really set off the look of the kitchen. But it’s actually tough. You need to make sure that you’re choosing cabinets and counters that are going to look good and fit with your theme and appliances.
Step #4: Design The Layout
But that’s not all, you also need to make sure that you’re picking out the perfect layout. This may sound simple, but you’ll want to work out where you want all of the appliances to go, whether you’re extending, adding in an island, or where you want other elements to go, like a dining table. Don’t rush this part, as it’s important that you get the design right.
Step #5: Accessorize Away
When you’re layouts sorted, the walls and floors are done, and the kitchen is fitted, then it’s time to style. Styling your home can be important when you want to sell, but it’s also a great way to ensure that you’re always happy with the look of your home. So work in the perfect accessories that will really set your kitchen design off.
