For many people, the kitchen is their primary family room.
It’s the place where everyone gathers to eat two or three meals a day. The fridge is often used as a place for daily communication by sticky notes and calendars. But the kitchen is also a place where disaster can strike frequently and repairs are regularly needed. Let’s talk about a few common kitchen problems that we all see at least once in our lifetime, and what you can do to repair them. I’ll also explain why you should deal with them now, and the dangers of leaving these problems unattended. Careless home behaviour can put your home at risk, so it’s best to take a firmer stance when it comes to repairs.
Problem #1: Leaky Faucets
A leaky faucet is probably the most common problem in a kitchen. It’s often seen as innocent, but it could be costing you so much money in water bills. Not only does the cost of wasted water add up, the leak could get worse and it could affect other parts of your plumbing system. Fixing a leaky faucet is simple, and only takes a little bit of DIY knowledge to repair it yourself.
Problem #2: Smelly Drains
The last thing you want is to cook a meal while the smell of sewage fills your nose. Fortunately, a smelly drain is a simple fix. You could use a combination of baking soda and vinegar to get rid of anything clogging your drains. This trick can also be used to clear out your bathtub drain as well! The problem is that food and grime can clog up the drain and cause bacteria to fester. Flush the drain out at least once every two weeks and the smell will disappear.
Problem #3: Noisy Refrigerator
A noisy fridge is often seen as a nuisance that will eventually go away. People often assume that it’s because the fridge has something stuck in its fans, or maybe there are items on top of the fridge causing it to rattle. However, it could also be a more pressing issue: maybes the evaporator motor is failing, or the compressor is worn out and no longer functioning properly to keep your fridge and freezer cooled at the right temperatures. This could be a sign that your fridge is wearing out, so make sure you contact a Maytag refrigerator repair technician or the service provider for whichever brand you use. The longer you ignore it, the more expensive it may become, as you might eventually have to replace the fridge altogether.
Problem #4: Greasy Countertops
The countertops around our stove are the most common culprits when it comes to grease. Whether you’re cooking with butter or oil, splashes are inevitable and can quickly turn your kitchen into a mess. This can slowly lead to bad habits and a nasty kitchen that will scare anyone who walks in. Make sure your extractor fan is working properly and give your counters a good scrub to prevent a grease buildup.
