What Color Should You Paint Your Bedroom?

When it comes to decorating your bedroom, one of the hardest decisions to make is what color to choose.

The color of our bedrooms can actually affect the way we sleep, which is why it is so important to make the right decision for our homes. Choosing a paint color is similar to choosing a mattress: You are choosing it based on which type will be best for your personal style of sleeping, and what will allow you to relax at night. (If you happen to be looking for a new mattress as you are redoing your bedroom, check out these many different types of mattresses here that will suit different people.) But what kind of color should you choose?

Neutrals

If you want to play it safe with your color choice, a neutral shade is probably the best choice for you. Your options will range between colors like black, gray, white, beige, and cream. These are all great choices for a bedtime setting because they are not too bold and can go with just about any bedding you choose. You can add accent colors to the space by using throw pillows, artwork, or bedding. Neutrals never go out of fashion, making them great for most people because you can tailor the rest of the room however you want. And if you’re the type to get bored with one style and constantly want to switch things up, a neutral wall color will accommodate any other design changes you decide to make later on.

Pastels

If you love the idea of a soft color but don’t want to go straight to neutral, pastel is the next best thing. It allows you to choose a theme for the room without committing to a bold red or yellow on the walls. Pastels come in a wide range of different shades such as baby blue, peach, mint, lilac, or pale yellow. To avoid these colors looking too childish in your bedroom, accent them with a few dark pieces of furniture and art.

Bright Colors

When you think of bedroom settings you don’t immediately consider bright colors because they have the potential to take over the space, not allowing you to fully rest. However, if you choose the color carefully, it can work really well and make your bedroom look and feel luxurious. Try to avoid shades such as fuchsia or pumpkin, as they can make the room look tacky. Instead, try out a bright green or a deep plum. Either can be idea if you use white or cream to offset it.

When it comes down to it, your bedroom color choice is completely dependent on your personal taste and what you find relaxing.

If you are struggling to find ideas, check out some interior design magazines for inspiration. They will have many different designs combinations. You can also buy samples from the paint store to test how the color will affect the overall look of the room. Eventually you will come across the perfect shade to have in your bedroom for a great night’s sleep.
